Message from the President
Founded in April 2010, AALIMS reached a milestone at its third anniversary. As a sign of becoming an established organization, we have experienced our first “change of the guard.”
Islam and Economic Development: Past and Present
Program: Coming soon
Presentations: Coming soon
On April 2-3 2010, AALIMS held its first conference at Duke University, under the auspices of Economic Research Initiatives at Duke (ERID), a center housed within the Economics Department. Entitled “Islam and Economic Development: Past and Present,” the conference brought together 18 scholars who had been exploring connections between Islamic institutions and economic performance historically and in the modern world. Connections between religion and economic performance often work through political variables, so the roles of political structures also received focused attention. In addition to the presenters, the audience consisted mainly of faculty and graduate students from Duke.
