Egor Lazarev is a Ph.D. student at the Department of Political Science at Columbia University, specializing in comparative politics. His research focuses on ethnic and religious politics. He has conducted field research in the North Caucasus, Central Asia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. His dissertation project examines the political role of Sufi Islam. Before entering graduate school, Egor was a Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research at the Higher School of Economics (Russia) and a Carnegie Visiting Fellow at the Center for Political Studies at the University of Michigan. Egor graduated with distinction from St. Petersburg State University.
