Sharan Grewal is a 2018 - 2019 post-doctoral fellow at Brookings, and will subsequently be an Assistant Professor of Government at the College of William & Mary. His research explores democratization, security studies, and political Islam, especially in the Middle East and North Africa. His book manuscript, Soldiers of Democracy: Military Legacies and Democratic Transitions in Egypt and Tunisia, examines why the Egyptian military overthrew its democratic transition while its Tunisian counterpart did not. He has conducted interviews, surveys, and lab experiments in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. His work has been published byComparative Politics, International Organization, and the Journal of Conflict Resolution. He holds a Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University.
