Cemal Eren Arbatlı is Assistant Professor at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. His research area spans long-run comparative development, political economy of weakly institutionalized regimes and the economic history of the Ottoman Empire, with a particular interest in the economic and cultural legacy of population history, ethnoreligious diversity and ethnic capital. Eren is a research affiliate at Households in Conflict Network (HiCN), and he is an AALIMS faculty fellow since May 2018. He holds a BA in economics from Sabancı University, a master's degree in economics from Bilkent University, and a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University.
