David Siddhartha Patel is a Junior Research Fellow at the Crown Center for Middle East Studies in Brandies University. Much of his research combines game theory, ethnography, and geospatial analysis to analyze the recurrent ability of Islamic institutions and symbols to shape patterns of collective action through the dissemination of information. At the Crown Center, Patel will complete his book on "Islam, Information, and Social Order," that seeks to explain the emergence and decline of local social orders and national-level sectarianism in post-Saddam Iraq. He received his B.A. from Duke University in economics and political science and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in political science.
