Bringing together prominent scholars from the United States and abroad, the conference will explore a variety of issues concerning political economy of Islam and the Muslim World, including Islamic beliefs and financial markets, political participation and competition in modern Islam, conflict in the Muslim world, and Islam and institutional change. It will be preceded by a half-day graduate student workshop. Organized jointly by the Stanford University’s Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies and the Association for Analytic Learning about Islam and Muslim Societies (AALIMS), the conference is co-sponsored by Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) and Stanford Center for International Development (SCID).
